Drawing + Frosting = Disaster
For my birthday, Sam bought me some new baking supplies. While he was shopping, he found a cake pan for our Car Movie enthusiast. It was very thoughtful, but I just have to say - I hate these pans. HATE them! The end result never looks like it is supposed to - his face is all wonky and the tires look flat. I am not an artist with a pen and paper, so drawing + frosting = disaster. Owen was happy though - he loved his Lightnin'-queen cake, which was nice, but he is also 4. I could have smeared red frosting on a graham cracker and he would have thought he won the Piston Cup.

I liked your cake. No one would ever think i was a professional cake decorator. Colored frosting and m&m's is about it for me. For my "fancy" cakes, I use a bundt pan, moist recipe and sprinkle powdered sugar on top. Looks nice without the effort and headache.
Now, I thought your cake was adorable! If your son thought it was top notch, well then, enough said. Love coming here and reading about your life!
Heck, I'D be happy with red frosting smeared on a graham cracker. What's wrong with that?
Just kidding. Love the cake and love the look on his face even more. You're such a good mom. Amazing how you can be so caustic with your wit and yet so sweet with your little babies. I admire that. lol
Hey, stop it! The cake is fun- you are super brave for even trying it- and fyi the last cake I decorated said Hapy Birthday Josh and I realized it...as we were singing. In front of nine adults. Ha!
Oh, your little guy is so cute! The cake looks great, and if Owen liked it, that's all that matters anyway.

Are your fingers still red from that red icing??? That is a cute story! Give it a few more years and it is much harder to please them...sadly.
smeared frosting on a graham cracker.......I'm still laughing.
This tells you how good I am at baking cakes......for Lucas' 4th year, I bought a big dump truck, baked a chocolate sheet cake, cut it in 2 in squares, placed them in the dump truck, poured chocolate pudding all over the top and sprinkled ground up chocolate wafers over the whole thing. I used sand castle scoops to scoop it out.............see I'm such a cake artist. :)
Well, I think it is adorable and I am betting that precious little man does as well!
Hugs,
Sue
