A Bad Day

We all have them, but I thought I would let you in on what I consider to be a chaotic day in my world:

  • Woken at 5 AM by Owen singing in his bed. Nice song, but not the best timing.

  • My back aches.

  • Get kids fed, dressed and ready to walk to school. No time for coffee (big mistake). Spencer decides at that the moment I say, "get you shoes on" that he needs to use the restroom. After 5 minutes, I ask him to hurry up. He says not to worry he took the baby wipes in to make it faster. Baby wipes - you are putting baby wipes down the toilet? Ugh! Get in the car, no time to walk.

  • Drop Spencer off, head to the grocery store with Owen and Laney. While filling my bag with plums, I look over at the cart to find Laney standing in her seat with her arms stretched out and the seat belt around her ankles. I try to get her to sit down, but she wants to be carried. Not an option. She screams. A woman looks over and asks if big that noise came from my little girl. Yes - yes it did.

  • The grocery store has a new self check out lane with no item limit - cool. This will go much faster without all of the chit-chat and my pears might not get juiced this time because I am certainly going to plop a gallon of milk on top of them. I look at the screen and notice that my last item did not scan. I walk over to pick it up with an unscanned box of Kix in my hands, at which time the machine starts screaming at me. "You have an unchecked item in the bagging area." Lucky me, the item didn't scan because the machine is jammed. Great!

  • More screaming/screeching/whining from Laney.

  • Get home and unload groceries.

  • Return Sam's phone call about good times for him to schedule his week long business trip. Perfect!

  • I look over to find that Owen has left the library's John Deere tractor DVD on the floor and Laney found it and snapped it into two. Owen tells me not to worry because we can tape it. Thanks.

  • The worst part of the day - the clock only says 11:30 AM. Oh me, oh my.

Well, I certainly feel better having shared, but I do feel a bit guilty. I don't want you to think I am a whiner. How are you feeling? I know you have bad days too - probably a lot worse than this. I know I am fortunate to have a healthy and a, for he most part, happy family, but there are some days it's hard to remember and easy to get caught up in the pandemonium. So, now that I have filled your mind with all of this chaos, I though I would share a few pictures I took in Pictured Rocks Park to erase the images of us and fill you with serenity.

Butterfly

Isn't she beautiful?

Butterfly

Oh man, is that a bee?

Butterfly

That's a bee alright.

Butterfly

Are you kidding me? Fly away butterfly, fly.

Butterfly

I guess even butterflies have bad days. I tried.

Now you've just got to quit apologizing for what you think is "whining". What's the point of blogging if you can't fuss a little, too? Believe it or not, I, the ABSOLUTE QUEEN of all things whiney, actually feel guilty sometimes, too, for all that crazy whining I do on my blog. But then again, I have to remind myself that life isn't all roses and sunshine and if you want to pretend it is then how honest is your blog anyway? It's basically just a work of fiction then. I guess if someone wants to write it that way, that's okay, too - but I think it's better to just be...natural. Warts and all! lol It sounds like you and Marcia, over at http://joyismygoal.blogspot.com/2007/09/thursday-thirteen-my-decompression.html, had the same kind of day. I feel for you guys, I really do! In fact, you sent me a comment the other day that I've been needing to answer. Think I'll go to my e-mail and do that now..."talk" to you in a second. lol

Heather, I saw the comment you left on Rhoda's post at Southern Hospitality. It went something like "kids? what kids?". Bad Heather. Bad, bad Heather. But, having said that...let me put in a bid for those little humans you have running around under your feet right now. Should you decide to pack up and move without them, drop them off in Texas and I'll care for the little darlin's. Unless they loose all their adorable cuteness as they get older. If THAT happens, you'll have to come get them, okay? But I think we'll be fine. Go on now. Fill out that application with Rhoda's company...I'll be waiting. lol

Dear,
Everyone needs a good whine every once in a while. It makes us happier on the good days- I am convinced of it.
I am sorry your day was so cruddy. I grimaced when i read about the snapped in two dvd. It sounds just like something that would happen at my house, only my kids like to feed library stuff to the dog.

We've all had days like that so not one of us thinks you are whining! Here's hoping that tomorrow is a better day.

Gosh, I remember days like those when my kids were little. I would get up in the morning and think to myself, "Another day in paradise...! So don't worry about "whining," it's just part of being a mother. I'm sure you also have plenty of days when they just fill your heart with joy. Just as long as you have a balance of both! ;)

xoxo,
Mary

I am a whiner too sometimes. I have written about bad days with my son, losing his shoe when we are trying to get to soccer, forgetting the sunscreen and having to drive to the store to get it along with a new pair of shoes...all before 11AM.

You are normal! Having kids can give you great days and days you just want to scream! They do grow up though and you will look back at those moments and wish you could just tweak their little cheeks one more time...

Have a better afternoon!

Thank you all for your kind and understanding words. We made it though the rest of the day and after a good nights rest the sun is shining again. =)

Oh my, I had to laugh because I can so relate. Even though I only have one 16 mo. old, sometimes I find myself looking at the clock, thinking, "is it nap time yet??". She was sick last week and it made for some very LONG days. Somehow moms just have a knack for loving them, no matter what they do!

That does sound like a pretty crappy morning. Those self checkouts are from hell. I swear something goes wrong every time I use one. Now I avoid them like the plague!
