Tummy Aches
It's that time of year again - time for the annual self induced stomach ache. No matter how hard they try, they just can't resist the bounty before them.
Can you guess which two had the biggest belly pains of all? I couldn't even distract Sam and Laney for a minute to take a photo.
After picking 14 pounds of blueberries, they understandably can't stand the sight of them. Spencer thought he was going to see blueberries for the rest of his life. Most will go into the freezer, but some will be disguised:Blueberry Crumb Bars

1 cup white sugar
1 teaspoon baking powder
3 cups all-purpose flour
1 cup butter

1 egg
1 teaspoon salt
1 pinch ground cinnamon (optional)
4 cups fresh blueberries
1 tablespoon lemon juice
1/2 cup white sugar
4 teaspoons cornstarch
Preheat the oven to 375 degrees F (190 degrees C). Grease a 9x13 inch pan.
In a medium bowl, stir together 1 cup sugar, 3 cups flour, and baking powder, salt and cinnamon (if desired). Use a fork or pastry cutter to blend in the butter and egg. Dough will be crumbly. Pat half of dough into the prepared pan.
In another bowl, stir together the sugar and cornstarch. Gently mix in the blueberries and lemon juice. Pour the blueberry mixture evenly over the crust. Crumble remaining dough over the blueberry layer.
Bake in preheated oven for 45 minutes, or until top is slightly brown. Cool completely before cutting into squares.

What a delight of your part of the country! Remember those raspberries? wonderful. Think that recipe would work with figs?

Summer fresh fruit and veggies doth get us all - give myself hives on cherry tomatoes every summer...won't get into the other goodies.....Re Owen and statistics, I, like Katie, didn't give statistics a thought 'till college...he's been sprinkled w/math dust. Gigi
I am jealous! I had to buy mine. I just did a post on a blueberry recipe too. Great minds think alike. I will have to give this one a go as they are still having the sale and my tummy is still aching for more!
