The Pursed Plecostomus
Well, AJ is 3 weeks old today and in some ways it feels like 3 months. You wouldn't be able to tell from the pictures, but we've had a bit of a rough start with this guy. He lost almost 10% of his body weight in the first few days, which is not good because at this age babies are supposed to be gaining an ounce a day. Apparently, pursed lips makes it difficult to eat - can you imagine? So instead of nursing him most of the day, I started him nursing all day and was extremely disappointed when several days later he still hadn't gained an ounce. The next visit he gained only 2 ounces over 3 days. More despair! Finally, he started gaining again and for the past week has been gaining 2 ounces a day.
The pursed Plecostomus is still nursing all of the time, but as long as he adds to those rolls we are okay. Now, if I could get the other 3 to purse their lips a bit so they weren't starving all of the time, I might actually be able to get a thing or two put away...

Hi:) My name is Emily -- I've been a fan of your blog for a little while now and am so excited for your adorable family's new addition! My husband and I are expecting our first a week from now -- a little boy -- and seeing pictures of A.J. make me even more excited! I'm so glad to hear that he is gaining weight -- that can be pretty scary. Thank goodness he is doing well! Congratulations!

Take your time and enjoy your little one. The years just fly by so quickly!
Congratulations!
Ruby was a bit bigger than AJ and I remember she lost nearly a pound that first week.... wonder if it is more common to lose a bit more with a bigger baby? We were terrified which was only made worse by her being our first. I'm glad he's got things worked out... seems like he's making up for lost time.
He is so gorgeous!
