2 Twice
Next in the birthday line-up was Laney. We had intended to have a family party for her birthday, but she was not feeling well. The party was postponed one night and we had a small celebration with a last minute ice cream cake from Baskin Robins. Forget the Motrin, in Laney's book ice cream was the perfect fever reducer.
It was a chocolate cake with meringue buttercream frosting. I decided to try meringue buttercream and loved it. It was more work to make, but worth it - I will be using this recipe from now on. The decorations were made from fondant with the exception of Elmo; I bought him and covered the fish tank he was holding with a "Laney is 2" sticker. The fondant was shiny because I had to refrigerate the cake when Laney got sick - I don't think she minded though:

What special memories your cakes will be for your children. I'm glad little Laney is feeling better and able to enjoy her adorable custom designed and created confection.
AWESOME cake! I love how you incorporated everything she likes right now.
You must be exhausted though with all of the birthdays you have celebrated!
October is almost over now, so hopefully you can relax a little bit now. I am tired for you! LOL
Glad everyone is starting to feel better!
Adorable!!! That cake is so adorable!
I am back to blogging and would love it if you could stop by and vote on something I am trying to make a decision about. Thanks!
The cake is too sweet for words but oh that face. That precious face is so very smoochable!
How cute is she??
I am so glad she was feeling well enough to enjoy it all!
Warm hugs,
Sue
Beautiful job on the cake! I've heard that fondant doesn't taste that great -- is that true? Does the real frosting offset the taste? It looks yummy!
An Elmo cake. I love it. You are so talented! My kids get Costco cakes, with a character stuck on top. I am certain now that they must feel deprived. You've made some great memories for those little sweeties!
