Dipped A Toe
The year before last I gave Sam a tent for his birthday and it has sat in its original package since then. It's not that we haven't thought about using it, it's just, well, the Laney Factor. Taking her camping would be more like taking a high dive rather than dipping a toe. We also weren't sure that the boys wouldn't get scared in the middle of the night and want to go home; so, rather than let the tent sit for another year, the kids and I set up camp in the back yard for a boys only night. The boys hauled out all of their "babies" (stuffed animals) and set up house. They had a fantastic time, but their enjoyment was limited to one night...Sam said he had to get a night's sleep - he had slept with one eye open the whole night. After successful toe dipping into the world of camping, we just may take the plunge next year.

How fun! Love the pictures! I grew up camping - and I mean REAL camping. We camped in National Forest with no facilities (no potty). When I was in high school my parents bought a campground and we ran it in the summers for 4 years before they sold it. I have wonderful memories from those days. Thank you for sharing yours!

Glad the boys got their "night out."
Great fun. Really like those shadow profiles of the boys.
Great photos!!!!
Heather,
We did the same thing! Max had the two older ones out while the babe and I stayed in. Although at 9 Hailey said she wanted to get in her own bed and ditched the tent(a girl after my own heart) and by 10 when Karlie was still chattering on, Max called it a night and brought her to bed too. So I don't think we will take the plunge for an additional year!
ROFL! We have our tent set up in our backyard also. I used a twin size air mattress and my daughter the Princess decided she must have an air mattress next time as well...PLUS a white noise machine because the outside "is just too loud!" lol
I think this week will be our week to sleep outside for at least one night.

Oh Heather, you header looks awesome. I've been unplugged for some time with computer woes and starting back to school. Camping, never tried it in a tent.

I love my tent, too! I go camping in my own backyard, LOL
Great pictures!!!
Woohoo! And may you have many great camping years ahead of you. I love camping -- one of my favorite trips was when a friend and I ('cause the hubbies are camping weinies) took our kids to the state park at the foot of the big bridge from lower Michigan to the UP (sorry, I can't remember it's name -- it's on the UP side.) It was a little cramped, but we had a great time -- took our bikes and took the ferry to Mackinac Island. And for even bigger fun -- take your tent and go out west to the National Parks. Nothing can beat that! (Well, except maybe backyard camping.) ;-)
