Friend or Foe?

Cute?

Just a scurrying rodent?

We have these little critters scampering all around our yard. I guess they are kind of cute and, in some ways, better than all of the squirrels. When I say "all of the squirrels", I talking about the gray squirrels, the black squirrels, the big fox squirrels a.k.a. barges and the feisty red squirrels. Really, a Nature documentary on squirrels could be filmed in our backyard. Feed them and they will come - they eat like kings and queens in our yard.

Most of the time I don't even get to sit down to eat - enjoy Mrs. Squirrel.

Okay, back to the chipmunks who are far more polite with their yard manners than the squirrels - they don't dig like their bushy tailed friends, nor are they as forward with their food requests. What they are is louder; they chirp at one another like cardinals on steroids. Plus, there is the whole size issue; they are getting down to mouse size. I really am conflicted about these guys, so what do you think - rodent in every sense of the word, or cute backyard buddy? Just curious.

My Favorite Rodents

Seeing this picture, I was reminded of Ralph S. Mouse and his motorcycle. Sadly, the boys and I are on the last book of the series. It seems fitting that a chipmunk would have a 4x4 truck doesn't it?

Done with the rodent randomness now.

I had to laugh when I saw this post. We, too, have squirrels. In fact, yesterday morning when I went out to get the newspaper, I found one at my feet in the walkway...except it was, ahem, in two pieces. You see, my cat, Snowball, LOVES squirrels!!
Gross!! I guess I better not post a picture of that!!
Quick question, do you have a cat??

Thanks for the chuckle,
Linda

Linda,

That is impressive for a kitty to get a squirrel. We do have cats - four that we rescued. They are indoor cats though and the squirrels and chipmunks know it and tease them mercilessly.

Heather,
I left information on my blog for you about the blue & white loveseat. Your blog is adorable, I'll be back later to browse more.
I say Friend for the squirrel poll ;)

I totally love chipmunks. I don't see them much around here but when I do they sure make me smile.

Heather, thank you so much for leaving your sweet comments on my blog. I really, truly appreciate them. Jen

I love chipmunks. They are so cute. And given that I am not a rodent fan, that's saying something!
Thank you for adding me to your blogroll! I feel so special! ;-)

I vote friend for the chipmunks, but we don't have many. My cats consider them a real delicacy ( like Linda's cats they also like to leave me a squirrel once in a while). Happy you are reading Ralph S. Mouse. I loved to read those books to my boys when they were young...aah nostalgia

I have to admit that I love chipmunks. We have one who visits us when we sit on the deck, and will take roasted almonds out of my hand (don't worry, I wash VERY carefully afterward!). We call him (her?) "Chippydoodle."
Love your blog!

I like the chipmunks! We have one that lives under our patio. He and my cat have a nice little morning routine. She sits at the back door watching intently waiting for him to come out of his hole. He eventually rewards her and makes the best of showing her how much he can get away with since she is bound by the screen!!

I must say also that I am impressed by cats that catch squirrels. Those are some serious hunters.

You are too funny! We don't have many chipmunks or squirrels but we have moles and groundhogs. The are very destructive. The groundhogs have been known to come right up to our backdoor!

They are both very unattractive critters. At least the chipmunks are kind of cute.
