Here Kitty Kitty

Oh, to have the life of a cat. Remember that question as a kid? The one about what animal you'd be? I always wanted to be a cat - the sunbaths, bird-watching and the naps. Except for the licking yourself clean part, what a life.

Well, my life is far from that of a cat's. At 5:00 am this morning I was jolted awake with the recollection that I was responsible for 23 Kindergarteners' snacks. Not just any old snack mind you, these snacks must not contain any nuts, dairy or eggs, or they will send Spencer's classmate into anaphylactic shock. Do you think the cat has ever woken up in a cold sweat?

I have been trying to watch my weight a bit. I say a bit because I am not huge, but I have crossed the 30 mark and the evidence of the 3rd child seems to be lingering a bit too long. That and, oh yeah, I am a sugar addict. I would like to give up the copious amounts of sweets and treats, but, let's be honest here, it just isn't going to happen. I need sugar to get through the day. Enter moderation. Do you think that cat works at moderation?

Moderation was a thing of the past this afternoon. It started off innocently enough with this art studio/fort.

I sat and worked on a bit of knitting while the boys colored. Laney then woke up from her nap and the boys decided they would head upstairs rather than suffer the wrath of the Laney tornado. Just as predicted, Laney saw the fort and immediately climbed in. I didn't think much of it until I heard her start singing "no, no, no - noooo". I then found this:

After taking the pens away and stopping by the treat cupboard for a piece of toffee, I went to check on the boys and found this:

Gotta love old houses. The doorknob was, unfortunately, inside the room.

doorknob

Yes, that is Spencer through the doorknob. After talking him through the doorknob fix, I left them to their playing. I headed downstairs to grab a bite-size Snickers.

Shorty thereafter, I heard some commotion and laughter on the stairs. Spencer then came running into the kitchen asking for their bicycle helmets. I grabbed a few M&M's and went to survey the scene, only to find the boys "pillow skating".

At this point is was after 5:00pm, and sugar would no longer suffice - I poured a glass of wine. Do you think the cat noticed?

With the little ones in bed and a bit of time to reflect, I got to thinking about the cat again and wondered if he really did have it better than me - nawww, that guy has to lick himself clean!

Two Wheelin

I ran a quick errand this weekend and when I returned, I found this in the back yard:

I asked Spencer to ride his bike so I could take a video. Once finished, I told him he could stop. He then said, "me, stop on two wheels - never!" The kid can't put one foot in front of the other, but he can ride a bike.

Eh Hem

Bath Mitt
This is all I have to show after a whole week - a bit sad isn't it? It is a knit bath mitt from a pattern I found on a Sugar n'Cream label. Although I like the way it turned out, I will go up a needle size or two the next time and actually follow the directions (the pattern called for US9 and I used US7), eh hem. Hopefully now that Easter, spring break and our trip to Chicago are behind us, I might be able to get a few more projects finished. You did get the "might" part right?

Fooled you

bunny cakeMost people have something lemon or strawberry for their Easter dessert - something that tastes of spring, but not us. Looking at this cake you might think, oh, she went with a carrot cake. That would have been my pick, but it is actually a sour cream chocolate cake with brown sugar buttercream and homemade fondant. It was Spencer's choice and, what can I say other than, the boy loves chocolate.

Sewing? I hate sewing!

IMG_4520

I hate sewing because I am no good at it. Not just bad, but really bad and it frustrates me to no end. One would think this would deter me from buying fabric, but it doesn't. Nope, I buy the fabric and look at it in hope that it will somehow sew itself, but instead, it sits and taunts me. Someday... in the meantime, I busy myself with other projects like knitting and chasing the Pull-up brigade (yes, they are clean ones).

Starting Early

I think there may be yarn stores in her future. Mom, I know you were hoping for a quilter, but we will always be willing to keep you company at the fabric store.
